"Actor Lee Jung-Jae's Opinion on 'STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE'"
Hello there! The Corellian Korean here to talk about what Squid Game star Lee Jung-Jae said at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023.
During a Star Wars Celebration panel with THE ACOLYTE stars Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-Jae, the two talked about their roles and enthusiasm for the Disney Plus series. The Korean star mentions how he is pleased that the event exclusive trailer for THE ACOLYTE has finally released. The trailer has not been made public yet but the event attendees have poured onto social media to talk about the content of the scarce trailer.
Lee goes onto express his admiration for the Star Wars property, that he wouldn't have joined the project if it was not Star Wars. The world renown Korean actor was sold once he heard that his character would wield a lightsaber. Lee was so confident about the project that he doubled down and guaranteed that THE ACOLYTE would be the "most interesting Star Wars story."
Personally, Lee's bold statement caught me off guard as THE ACOLYTE is a Kathleen Kennedy lead project. There is much controversy over Kennedy's leadership of Lucasfilms. Many fans have criticized her management of the Star Wars property ever since the release of the divisive THE LAST JEDI. There are many sources that believe that Kennedy would stepdown as president of Lucasfilms after the release of Indiana Jones in 2023. But the most recent rumors stated that Kennedy is fighting to stay as president of Lucasfilms. That there is chance that Kennedy might stay as president if her projects: THE ACOLYTE and SKELETON CREW do well. Lee Jung-Jae was either being a professional and supporting his craft or he really believes that series will succeed. Only time will tell.
THE ACOLYTE takes place before the PHANTOM MENACE, the first chronological film in George Lucas' six part space opera. Lee will play the role of a Jedi Master and Amandla Stenberg's character is a female Jedi protagonist. There is speculation to the plot of the series but nothing is set in stone. Some believe that Stenberg's character, Aura, is a force sensitive that is adopted by the Jedi Order at a very young age and Aura is forced to abandon her sister. Aura's separation from her sister sets forth a story of revenge against the Jedi Order. During the course of the film, Aura will join Darkside Force users called Acolytes that are competing to become a Sith, the enemy of the Jedi. Hence forth the name of the series, THE ACOLYTE. The series is set to release in the 2024.
