RANDOM QUESTION SUNDAY 022

“What does the Corellian Korean think about AHSOKA?”

Hello there! The Corellian Korean here with the twenty-second RANDOM QUESTION SUNDAY! And the question is:

What does the Corellian Korean think about AHSOKA?

WARNING POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD

FOR THE AHSOKA SERIES

THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO TURN AWAY

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED...

So far so good. I enjoyed the five episodes with my family so far. Trooper #37 and his sister seem to have developed an interest in Star Wars once again after watching AHSOKA. Since the premiere, the kids and I have continuously watched AHOSKA together as a family since the premiere. For a time, #37 showed more interest in other hobbies like a certain monster game that involves pockets. After the premiere of AHSOKA, #37 wanted to play more skirmishes with his fantasy character. And we started having conversations about the past Star Wars content before and after the acquisition of Lucasfilms by Disney.

For me, I was pleased to see the live-action versions of these animated characters come to life, to see what they would look like, how they would move on set or how they would interact with other live-action characters.

I appreciated how Dave Filoni expanded the lore of Star Wars with AHOSKA like how George Lucas expanded the lore through the Prequel Trilogy. Lucas was not afraid to introduce new environments and planets with unique biomes like the underwater world of Naboo, cloning facilities of Kamino, the volcanic planet of Mustafar, ant-like-colonies and droid factories of Geonosis, etc. It was cool that Filoni is doing more with the Force witches of Dathomir and introduced the mysterious planet of Seatos.

It was exciting not knowing what will happen next. Makes you want to theorize what will happen in the next installment. The motivations of the characters are there but there are hidden undertones that need exploring. For example, we understand that Ahsoka and Sabine want to find Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger but reuniting of Ahsoka and Sabine was a challenge. They had a past as a master and apprentice that needs exploring. And you want to know why Ahsoka left Sabine's training incomplete.

The story keeps getting better with each episode. The fourth and fifth episode really plateaued to a high point with the resolution that followed Ahsoka and Baylan's fight on Seatos. I like how Sabine's path diverged with Ashoka's. They will go on their own adventures towards the same goal. Sabine will travel with all three antagonists Baylan, Shin and Elsbeth, while Ahsoka travel with Huyang and the space whales. It will be interesting to see how their characters will develop as we are more than half way through the series. It's a pity that there are only three episodes left. Each episode had me at the edge of my seat wanting more.

Then we had the latest episode with Ahsoka meeting Anakin's Force Ghost in the World Beyond Worlds. This was the best episode so far. It was cool to see Hayden Christensen reprise his role as both Anakin Skywalker and the Darth Vader before dawning the infamous black armor. Remember that Anakin received the title of Darth Vader before he wore the armor. It was like seeing an old friend again. Hayden's acting was superb and natural. I'm glad that Christensen is getting positive reception after all these years post the Prequal Trilogy. The lightsaber fight between Ahsoka and Anakin was also well choreographed. The guy deserves a pat on the back on job well done. I hope we get more of Christensen.

Another cool thing that Dave Filoni did with the World Beyond Worlds, or WBW, was that Filoni allowed the audience to get a glimpse of what a live-action the CLONE WARS would look like for the Battle of Ryloth and the Siege of Mandalore. I jumped out of my seat when I saw Captain Rex make an appearance in live-action voiced by Temuera Morrison. And of course, we finally got to see rumored the live-action version of Ashoka during the Clone Wars. It was interesting to see how Filoni would translate Ahsoka into live-action. The actress who played the young Ahsoka was Ariana Greenblatt.

There were a few things that bothered me about the premiere of AHSOKA. Like, how did Baylan Skoll know that Sabine Wren was the apprentice of Ahsoka Tano? I don't think this intimate information was public knowledge. It's not like this information was catalogued in a grand database of the Jedi Order or library. Still waiting on Filoni to fill in this detail.

Another thing that bothered me was how Sabine's lightsaber duel with Shin Hati on Lothal. I think the stab to the gut by a lightsaber and then surviving has been over used. Dave Filoni could've used a more creative means to conclude that fight. Like crushing Sabine's arms or/and legs with a structure or a concussion to the head by an explosion from the HK droids to show how important Sabine's Mando helmet is. Do something new that makes sense.

And finally, the convenient HK Assassin Droid hiding to ambush Ahsoka at the scene of the crime was probably the worst plot device of the show so far. I think Filoni and the creatives involved could've done better job to advance the story. It feels sloppy for Baylan and Shin to leave their droid there. I mean Shin tells Baylan that there was no way for anyone to track them but then we are given this disappointing plot device.

Other than these three gripes I am pleased with the outcome of the five episodes so far. I still need to see the entire series to make my final decision about how I feel about AHSOKA. Star Wars needs a win. I feel AHSOKA will be very important to longevity of this franchise and vitality. Keep it up Filoni!
