"Alternative Force Users"
Hello there. The Corellian Korean here with the scoop and thoughts about the latest rumors for STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW.
According to MakingStarWars.Net, their sources say that there will be "magic users" in a future Disney+ series, STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW. The articles goes on to state that these magic users are called Nightsisters which are different from the witches of the Dathomir of the Filoni CLONE WARS animated series. SKELETON CREW will go into the origins of these so called "Nightsisters". It was implied that they may be the opposite of the witches of Dathomir, focusing on a different form of magic.
The CLONE WARS Dathomir Nightsisters are the only Nightsisters in canon so far. They use a form of Darkside magic called "magick" which can bring the dead back to life, create undead soldiers, summon a voodoo curse upon an individual from a far, make invisible assassins and cast projectile energy much like Force Lightening. There has never been mention of another sect or cult of Nightsisters. So this information seems to imply that the SKELETON CREW Nightsisters will use the Force differently. The article hinted that these magic users tap into both the Light/Darkside of the Force. Perhaps, this new faction of Force users are the "Bendu", Force adepts that are neither aligned with the Light/Darkside of the Force. The Bendu were first introduced during the STAR WARS: REBELS animated series. The one Bendu in REBELS was able to summon powerful forces of nature like a Force storm/hurricane that can decimate the landscape.
Exploring alternate forms of the Force powers has always been a natural progression of the Star Wars universe ever since the introduction of Force witches in the Expanded Universe novel STAR WARS: THE COURTSHIP OF PRINCESS LEIA. The Force witches became canon through CLONE WARS and explored different applications of the Force. I hope Lucasfilms delves into other realms of the Force like plant magic, ice magic, fire magic, healing magic, etc. If the creatives at Lucasfilms do go in this route, I hope they introduce this aspect of the Force in a manner that makes sense. It's an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan, new and exciting stories are on the horizon.
